The pros and cons of daycare software

As you know, there is software for everything and daycare software is no exception. Now you can keep your Christmas list, recipes and even clothes sizes in a database if you choose. Is it always worth it? Probably not. But, if you are in the Daycare Business, you need to think carefully about whether or not to use daycare software to help you run your business.

Daycare software performs all sorts of tasks, depending upon the particular program you use. (Search on "daycare software" on the internet and you will discover that there are a lot of options to choose from.) Some of those tasks are:

* Keeping track of children and all child information including addresses, birthdays, medications, etc.

* Keeping track of child attendance

* Generating bills for service

* Keeping track of bills paid and outstanding bills

* Keeping track of inventory and creating supply orders

* Keeping track of menus

* Managing personnel schedules

* Managing payroll functions such as taxes, overtime, payments to Medicare, etc.

* Generating reminders for certificates that are due for renewal, permission slips that need to be updated, etc.

* Generating reports for state agencies.

* Creating financials, cash flow documents and other statements that are necessary for taxes.

So, is daycare software for you? Here are some ways to decide. How big is your daycare operation? If you operate a small daycare operation, you don't need to have software sophistication unless you prefer it. Your activity can be managed on paper though it's always a plus to be able to do the analysis that comes with collected information on a computer. If your operation is large, daycare software is a necessity. It's a waste of energy to manually perform tasks that are easily automated.

When deciding on daycare software, consider how computer literate you are. If you are a techie, do it even if you take care of only two or three children. There are enough advantages and you'll have fun, too. If you hate computers and it will take you longer to learn than to do things manually, don't use software at this point, unless you have a large operation. Then you must have daycare software and find someone who can help you. Besides, you better get into the computer age sometime soon.

How much money do you have for startup including items such as daycare software? You will need a decent computer and printer as well as daycare software. Small, save your money and purchase later if at all. Big, find the money and get automated from day one.
